5 Reasons to Consider a Career as a Welder

May 11, 2023 Laura

Welding is a trade that many consider when seeking a rewarding profession. There is always a demand for welding in a wide variety of industries, and as such, welders are often highly sought after.

In truth, welding is so much more than simply working with metals. It can be an incredibly stable and rewarding career choice. If you’ve been pondering whether a career in welding is right for you or not, then here are some reasons you might want to consider going for it.

High Demand

There is a high demand for skilled welders in all sorts of different industries. As technology advances, so do the demands for custom metal fabrication. If you are a trained and skilled welder, you’ll never find yourself out of work. If you’re looking for a stable job with the promise of plenty of hiring possibilities, then welding makes a great choice as a long-term profession.

High Salary

Although pay can vary depending on where you work, the average welder makes about $50,000 a year. If you manage to get enough experience under your belt, you may find yourself earning even more than that. The more specialized certifications you can obtain, the more likely you are to negotiate a higher salary.

Growth Opportunities

A welding career offers plenty of opportunities for professional growth. The more experience you gain and the more certifications you acquire, the more you can develop your skills, which leads to increased job opportunities. You may even eventually choose to become a welding instructor or go into management.

Large Range of Environments

There are many different environments that welders can work in. From underwater to oil rigs to construction sites, welders can find themselves in many different settings. For those who love a little adventure or changing things up sometimes, the wide variety of work environments can be appealing. Since you’re able to explore so many different sectors, you can gain diverse experience that you can transfer across multiple industries.

Short Training

Unlike some careers, welding doesn’t require years and years of education. Welding courses can be completed in as little as a few months, which means you can enter the workforce sooner. When you compare the convenience and price tag of quick training compared to racking up years and years of student debt, getting trained as a welder is much more attractive.

Creativity

Welding is so much more than just a technical skill. It can also be considered an art form that requires a considerable amount of creativity. If you’re someone who likes hands-on creative projects, welding may be something you greatly enjoy. It’s a great way to turn a creative passion into a full-fledged career.
