How Does Freelancing Fit Into Your Business Plan?

January 14, 2020 Laura

When it comes to creating your perfect business structure, what kind of thing do you have in mind? Do you plan on everything in your business being associated with employees, or is there some freelancing aspect to your work? It is an astute question to ask, and the earlier you figure it out, the better your chances are going to be to reach any goals that you have in mind successfully. Whether you are a freelancer or whether you hire freelancers, you need to know how the system works.

And you can look at it in a few different ways. For example, you can look at freelancing through the perspective of outsourcing. Or, you could decide where freelancing fits and if you want to be part of the gig economy, either as a buyer or seller. And a third example might be considering if you’re going to hire freelancers or if you want to be a freelancer yourself. Utilizing those perspectives, you can get a broad overview of the best benefits possible in context.

Outsourcing

When it comes to business matters, ideally, you’ll figure out how to outsource any time that you can. Outsourcing saves you money. Outsourcing makes you money. By comprehending the value of outsourcing in various types of economic circumstances, particularly when there is digital involvement, you’re giving yourself an excellent competitive advantage.

There is an alternative to outsourcing that goes by the name in-sourcing, and if you can learn how to leverage that to your advantage, then your business will have a double-edged sword to use against its competitors.

Understanding the Gig Economy

How familiar are you with how the gig economy works? Especially in the last several years, gig economy opportunities have exploded. Because of this, anyone who wants to be a freelancer can be a freelancer. And that gives you a lot of leeway in a number of your different business dealings. There’s a tremendous amount of opportunity out there for entrepreneurs who are willing to explore the gig economy in a fully developed way.

Which Side of the Equation Do You Want To Be On?

Ultimately, you have to decide where the most advantage comes to you in the freelance world. Perhaps you choose to be a freelance graphic artist. What are the benefits? How can you use your freelance status in a way that makes you the most profit? Or do you want to hire freelancers? Rather than having full-time employees work for you, what makes the most sense when it comes time to hire someone for a simple job? Knowing the answers to those questions about freelancers will give you a good roadmap to success.
