The Hidden Epidemic

April 7, 2018 Laura

Men do suffer from diseases. However, society corners them with expectations that make them want to show themselves off as perfect. It is also true, however, that a majority of men suffer from body image and health issues that never get addressed. Issues like Erectile Dysfunction, loss of sex drive is the butt of jokes in sitcoms and at comedy functions.

However, these are important issues that need to be contended with, instead of pushed in the corner. It has been found in multiple studies that men are leading busy lives often tend to ignore the signs and prefer to go along with life rather than face that they have a problem.

Why is that? Because we as a society have put pressure on men to behave a certain way, which is not fulfilled when they are suffering from a disease that involves their genitalia. So, men prefer to let themselves die off rather than face the truth and get medication for the same.

For people who are not comfortable with discussing their personal lives with their family physicians for fear of social scrutiny, this might be scary in the long run. After all diseases like Erectile Dysfunction has been linked to depressive tendencies in men and more problems.

However, not all hope is lost.

Today’s generation believes in the reclamation of the body. Keeping touch with that, sex-positive blogs have sprung up across the spectra which address men’s issues and their problems discreetly. Now, there is also a Viagra tablet available over the counter for people in the UK. The price of Viagra Connect and other such products cannot be discounted in a judgmental society.

Men do need to stand up for themselves and for the injustice they face in this regard. They need to face the fact that these epidemics need to be dealt with face to face, but, until then, we’re progressing, and that should be enough.
