Roger Wolfson Discusses Lesser-Known Writing Tips

Beginner writers need all the advice they can get. Unfortunately, in many situations, all the advice that is offered is generic. This is why Roger Wolfson talks about some of the lesser-known tips that writers should always take into account whenever they want to improve the quality of everything they write.

The Proper Sitting Posture

Laying on one’s back on a sofa while writing on a laptop actually hinders the writing process. Body position is directly connected with typing efficiency and speed. Slouching in a chair simply makes it very difficult to concentrate. The body of the writer should be in a specific position:

  • The back needs to sit up straight, without hunching over or leaning.
  • Elbows have to be positioned at 90-degree angles when relating to the keyboard.
  • Fingers have to be properly positioned when relating to the keyboard.

Standing desks do help some people and there are health benefits that might be considered. However, most people will just stay at a regular desk. When this happens, it is really important to adopt the adequate sitting posture.

Talk-To-Text

Technology is advancing at rates a few people expected. Brand new options are being developed every month and one of the very interesting ones is talk-to-text. This technology allows the writer to just talk into a microphone and software will put words into text. There is even a diction program that can be utilized in Google Docs. It is called “Voice Typing” and is available in the “Tools” menu.

Talk-to-text is particularly important for writers that speak a lot faster than they type. The technology helps people write books a lot faster.

Writing Sprints

Aspiring writers should learn all that they can about writing sprints whenever they want to increase writing speed. The current community of writers is huge. You can actually find writers online with the use of hashtags like #writingsprint. Full books can be utilized with the use of these sprints.

Those that are not aware should know that writing sprints practically mean that there is an amount of time when writing is done. It is usually decided by the writer and it is a time dedicated to just writing. With writing sprints, you need to just write and avoid doing something else, like editing or going back to read. Simply writing is enough to make the process fast.

Accountability Buddies

Accountability partners are particularly effective when the goal is to finish a book fast. The idea is that the accountability partner helps the individual to write faster because:

  • It makes the writer accountable
  • There is a friend to lift the spirits of the writer when something goes wrong
  • Writing sprints can be done by 2 people at the same time
  • Writer’s block can be discussed and even avoided

Challenges

Last but not least, Roger Wolfson often discusses the need for challenging oneself. In order to write faster, challenges help. These can help you to be much speedier at recommendation letters, composing emails, social media posts, cover letters, and articles. It also helps a lot with books and novels.

Writing is connected to thinking. Those that want to be a clearer and faster writer have to focus on challenges to improve.
