The big players in the mobile gaming world

When it comes to the video-game world, high-quality gaming copywriting is a must. The Google Play and iTunes stores are full of games ranging from RPGs to turn-based-strategy games from power-house games companies to small start-ups. The global video game industry is expected to grow to more than US$120 billion in 2019, with mobile gaming comprising a healthy chunk of that. Let’s dive in and look at the five-largest mobile gaming companies in the world.

Super Cell

Founded in 2010, Super Cell has experienced huge growth over the past few years thanks to fan favourites Clash of Clans and Hay Day. In 2017, it cleared US$1billion in profit and had 100 million active monthly users tapping away on their mobile games. With 300 staff, five global offices and five industry-leading games, Super Cell has become one of the biggest players in this industry.

Niantic

This mobile-gaming giant started its life as an internal start-up in Google and forged its own path after the formation of Alphabet; since then, it’s gone from strength to strength. Niantic is responsible for the hit augmented reality game Pokemon Go, which has been downloaded more than one billion times and was one of the biggest games in 2016. Niantic’s next project comes in the form of an augmented reality game based on the magical world of Harry Potter, and promises to be just as successful.

Tencent

Tencent was the first Asian company to be valued at more than US$500 billion and shows no sign of slowing down thanks to the tech advancements China is experiencing. Mobile gaming is a sizeable chunk of its revenue thanks to successful games such as Honor of Kings. Tencent is forging ahead as one of the leading mobile games companies and is definitely one to watch for when browsing app stores.

King Digital Entertainment

The maker of Candy Crush Saga, King Digital Entertainment is a world-leading interactive company specialising in mobile gaming. It has more than 250 million monthly active users playing 200+ videogame titles. Candy Crush Sagsa has surpassed 2.75 billion downloads worldwide since the original game was released. Other popular games include Pet Rescue, Farm Heroes and Bubble Witch – all of which can be found on the most popular sections of mobile app stores.

EA Mobile

This popular video game company has taken the plunge into the mobile gaming sector with great success. EA Mobile has been able to capitalise on high-selling video games by porting them over to mobile devices, with favourites like FIFA and NBA seen on mobile app stores. In 2016, EA Mobile hit the big landmark of US$500 million in revenue over a 12-month period, and continues to grow – it achieved US$637 million in revenue in 2017.

The mobile gaming sector continues to grow exponentially as video games become more accessible for everyone, and the games, graphics and playability are all getting better. The five companies above are leading the way in the mobile gaming industry, but there are plenty of fledgling start-ups looking for the next big mobile game – this can only be good news for gamers across the globe.
