Greensburg, Pennsylvania

Greensburg is a Westmoreland County city located southeast of Pittsburgh in the state of Pennsylvania. The city serves as the county seat and as the center for culture, tourism and commerce in Western Pennsylvania. During the 19th century, Greensburg has evolved from a simple railroad stop into a center for the coal mining industry which paved the way for its development. The city became a busy retail center with four major shopping centers that eventually gave birth to several other shops that are still standing in the present day. Greensburg’s historic small-town charm, scenic landscape and promising business atmosphere make it a great place to live. In fact, it has been named as one of the state’s ā€œBest Places to Retireā€ in 2007.

Tourist Spots

There are a lot of interesting places to see in Greensburg. It is home to many historic homes and buildings as well as cathedrals. Hanna’s Town, though not exactly a part of Greensburg, is an interesting place to learn and experience history first hand. Historic Hanna’s Town features 18th century log houses, an authentic Conestoga wagon, and the reconstructed Hanna Tavern. The Westmoreland County Courthouse is an imposing structure in Downtown Greensburg Historic District listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Designed by William Kauffman, the building’s Beaux Arts style draws attention from tourists in the area. The Westmoreland Museum of American Art showcases works of artists like Mary Cassatt, Stuart Davis and William Harnett.

Restaurants and Dining

Greensburg offers a wide variety of dining options that range from fast food chains and dessert shops to fine dining establishments. Whatever it is you are hungry for, you are sure to find something that will satisfy you palate in the city’s restaurants. The Solstice Restaurant and Lounge is a popular spot for seafood and Mediterranean cuisine while Robokyo offers delectable Asian dishes, with emphasis on Japanese cuisine.
