Cannabidiol (CBD)-what we know and what we don’t

October 27, 2021 Laura

Cannabidiol (CBD) is frequently discussed in the media, and it may be recommended as a supplement that you can take after doing your workout or with your morning coffee. There’s even a CBD-infused sports bra on the market. But what is CBD, exactly? And why is this getting popular day by day?

What distinguishes cannabidiol from marijuana, hemp and cannabis?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of the most common active components in cannabis, also known as marijuana. While CBD is an essential component used in medical marijuana, it is either extracted directly by processing the hemp plant, which is a relative of marijuana or synthesised in a lab. Delta-8 is another type of cannabinoid which is also quite famous, and can be produced naturally from the cannabis plant.

CBD is one of the hundreds of ingredients in marijuana, but it does not produce a “high” on its own. According to a World Health Organization (WHO) assessment, “CBD has no effects in humans that suggest it could be abused or become addictive. Up to this date, there has been no indication of any public health issues linked to the usage of pure CBD.”

Is it legal to use cannabidiol?

CBD is widely available in various regions of the United States, even though its legal status is still up in the air. CBD is partially legal in all 50 states, with different degrees of restrictions. The FDA relaxed regulatory criteria in December 2015, allowing researchers to undertake CBD experiments. The Farm Bill of 2018 is a Turning point in usage of hemp, as it made the hemp plant legal in the United States, making it nearly hard to keep CBD illegal — it’d be like legalising oranges but also restricting the usage of orange juice.

Most of the hemp-derived items, including CBD, were taken out from the Controlled Substances Act, which makes drug possession illegal. In other words, CBD is legal if it is derived from processed hemp, however, it will be illegal if hemp is derived from cannabis (marijuana) – despite the fact that the two molecules are identical. Many people currently buy CBD online without having a medical marijuana card, which is allowed in most states.

What is the best way to take CBD?

CBD is available in a variety of forms, including capsules, oils, extracts, vapes, patches as well as topical skin variations. A topical oil infused from CBD Flower, cream and lotion, may be the best option for reducing inflammation and relieving muscle or joint pain. A CBC patch, tincture, or spray meant to be applied under the tongue, on the other hand, allows CBD to have an effect in the bloodstream immediately.

Final Thoughts

Various CBD manufacturers came under fire from the authorities for making outlandish claims such as CBD being a cancer cure, which it isn’t. Some of them also believe that it can cure COVID-19. We know that further research is needed, but CBD could be a useful and generally non-toxic option for treating anxiety, sleeplessness, and chronic pain. We can’t estimate beneficial amounts without enough high-quality information from human research, and because CBD is currently available in the form of an unregulated supplement, it’s difficult to know what you are getting.
